Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), one of the largest hospitals in the UAE and part of the SEHA network will begin welcoming patients on November 3, 2019, as part of a phased opening of the new facility. The 300,000-square-meter and 732-bed facility is designed to provide world-class specialist care across a range of clinical practices and will feature: • Four ED/Trauma/Critical Care, Medical, Surgical, and Maternal/Child health dedicated towers and an outpatient facility. • Several specialized surgeries, in particular; vascular, burns and trauma, chest, orthopedics, and reconstructive surgeries, alongside specialized neonatal and pediatric care. • Advanced technologies and medical techniques including minimally invasive approaches such as laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgeries. Marking Phase 1, the Adult General Cardiology, Adult Neurology, ENT, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Ophthalmology departments will be the first to transition from Mafraq Hospital to treat patients at SSMC. The following phases of the opening will be gradual and expected by the end of 2019 and early 2020 respectively:   Phase 1 – Nov 3, 2019:
